So, you’re looking to buy a home in the DC area, but all the stories you hear are about how prices are rising, and multiple offers are the norm. And it’s true. The DC housing market can be very challenging for buyers. At The Walker Team, we help buyers win their dream home with strategies designed for our difficult housing market.

What can you expect when you choose to buy with The Walker Team? In general, great service, top strategies, and a fun, smooth process. In particular? Our initial meeting will be your time to tell us about your dream home, and to receive an overview of the entire buying process. You will know what to expect from start to finish as we cover loan pre-approvals, the offer and negotiating process, home inspections, contingencies, and the closing.

To gain insight into your dream home, we will ask you to imagine yourself in your new home. What does it look like? Where are you living? What kind of home is it?  Are you having your friends over? Where do you spend your time—the kitchen, the garden? What kind of payments are you making? Are you fixing the home up yourself? Is it the home you want to settle in for life, or is it just a stepping stone? What is your current situation? Is there a deadline for you to be out of your current residence?

To help you find just the right place, we want to thoroughly understand not only the type of home and community you are seeking, but why you are seeking it. Once we understand what you are looking for, your home search will begin using the local MLS. Home selection is initially a process of elimination. You will find that you eliminate homes based on price, style, size, and condition. Communities will be eliminated based on location, age, traffic, etc. To help with this process, we may initially give you a few homes to drive by in order to scout areas and styles. Once the choices are narrowed down, the average buyer sees 12 homes over 12 weeks. At each home, we will ask for feedback. Do you like it? If so, why? If not, why not? Could you see yourself living here?

Your responses will further shape the homes you see next. As you decide on your offer, we will guide you as you consider price, down payment, seller subsidy, escalation clauses, warranties, and contingencies for the home inspection, appraisal, and financing. You will be in good hands throughout the whole negotiating process. If you are thinking about buying now, or even years from now, give us a call. We’ll point you in the right direction to make the process as smooth as it can possibly be.
