U Street

A registered historical place by the National Park Service, U Street has one of the most rich, influential heritages of any place in DC. In the early 20th century, the area developed into a hub for African American life. The influence U Street had on American culture is still celebrated today. Enjoy a half smoked chili dog at Ben’s Chili Bowl, listen to music at U Street Music Hall, and view the African American Civil War Memorial outside of the U Street metro stop.

The Wharf

Formerly an industrial shipyard with warehouses and outdoor markets, DC’s Southwest has a lot of history in its ground. Phase one of Southwest Waterfront revitalization opened in 2017 and is known as the Wharf. Stop by Evan’s Brothers Seafood, take a walk along the boardwalk, watch the planes land at Reagan National, or see a concert at the Anthem Theater. This new DC gem is already popular and will only continue to grow as Phase 2 of the revitalization project gets underway.

Navy Yard

Located next to Fort McNair, the area’s name pay’s homage to the vast Naval history of the area. Navy Yard has become a favorite among DC sports fans, foodies, and everyone in between. With Green Line metro access, it’s easy to hop over to a game or happy hour after work one weekday. On a weekend, enjoy Brunch along the Potomac at one of the many restaurants along the Capitol Riverfront.

Capitol Hill

One of the oldest neighborhoods in the country, most people immediately think politics and office buildings when hearing Capitol Hill. Don’t be fooled though! There is a thriving, lively neighborhood sitting right by the Capitol. Filled with restaurants, shops, apartments, and more, Capitol Hill has plenty of great places to check out.

Courthouse/ Clarendon

Looking for the city life without living in the District? Courthouse/ Clarendon is the place for you! This half mile stretch includes two metro stations, multiple grocery stores, and tons of mom and pop shops and restaurants. The area is extremely walkable and has multiple bikes paths and parks nearby if you are looking to enjoy some time outdoors.

Old Town

Founded in 1749, a nationally designated historic district, and the place George Washington called home, Old Town Alexandria is one of the most beloved areas of Northern Virginia. With an average 90+ walking score, it’s easy to enjoy this area. Take a walk along S Union St. to visit Founders Park or the Torpedo Art Factory Center; Then turn up King St. for a slice of pizza at Bugsy’s and some ice cream at The Creamery.
